Kondotty: The digital survey to determine the boundaries for procuring land for the development of Calicut International Airport in Karipur will conclude on Thursday. The survey, which began on Monday, is aimed at acquiring 14.5 acre of land for the development of the Runway End Safety Area (RESA) in the airport.

7.5 acre will be procured in Nediyiruppu village in Malappuram and the primary determination of boundaries of land in Pilathottam was completed with the survey stones being laid after measurement.

Further, primary inspections were carried out in the northern parts of Palakkaparambu Pilathottam, located towards the east of the runway. As many as 14 houses were also included in the 22 plots inspected for the survey.

In Nediyiruppu, the government has decided a compensation of Rs 2.4 lakh to 2.79 lakh after evaluating facilities including roads. Those who lose houses will also be provided an additional compensation of Rs 10 lakh via the rehabilitation package.

However, locals are of the opinion that the base price decided by the government is less and demanded at least Rs 5 lakh for every cent of land. Protests have also been launched against not providing an alternate facility for Pilathottam road.
