Perunna, Kerala: NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair said the organisation decided to withdraw from the proposed alliance with the SNDP Yogam after realising that the initiative had political motives behind it.

His remark came after the NSS’s Director Board had raised objections to the proposed alliance with SNDP. Meanwhile, Vellappally Natesan, General Secretary of SNDP Yogam and SN Trust, reacted to the development, saying he came to know about the decision only through media reports.

Nair said certain developments, including Vellappally Natesan sending his son Thushar Vellappally to hold discussions with NSS, raised suspicions within the organisation.

“It is true that I had earlier said that two major Hindu organisations should come together. But later, we understood that those who raised the unity proposal had political intentions behind it. I had already informed Vellappally that there was no need for Thushar Vellappally to come,” Sukumaran Nair said.

He added that NSS would not compromise on its core principle of maintaining an equidistant stance towards all political parties.

“After understanding that there were political moves behind this, we decided to step back. One of our most important foundational values is equidistance, and we will not compromise on that. I myself presented the proposal to withdraw from the alliance. When talking about unity, why send an NDA leader to meet us? That approach raised doubts for us,” he added.
