BJP reaches out to NSS amid criticism; Sreedharan Pillai meets Sukumaran Nair

Kottayam: The BJP has moved to placate the NSS. Former BJP state president PS Sreedharan Pillai visited the NSS headquarters at Perunna on Sunday. The visit comes in the backdrop of strong criticism by NSS General Secretary Sukumaran Nair against the BJP a few days ago.
Sreedharan Pillai arrived at the NSS headquarters on Sunday morning along with BJP district leaders. The meeting lasted about 20 minutes. Speaking after the meeting, Sreedharan Pillai said there were no disputes between the BJP and the NSS. “The NSS has always been a blessing to many of us. When during conversations, some things may be said. I do not wish to elaborate on them. There is no issue of compromise with the NSS because there is no dispute. Compromise is needed only when there is a dispute,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sukumaran Nair said he shares a friendship with Sreedharan Pillai that goes beyond politics. “We are friends not just politically but also personally. I take pride in that. This visit should not be linked to the BJP,” he said. He also added that decisions regarding the NSS–SNDP agreement would be announced after matters are finalised.
It may be recalled that Sukumaran Nair had recently criticised the BJP, alleging that despite promising legislation on the Sabarimala issue, the party had done nothing.
