Widespread rains to lash Kerala for next 5 days; IMD sounds orange, yellow alerts

Thiruvananthapuram: As widespread rains continue to lash Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded rain alerts in the state for the next five days. 

Orange alerts have been declared in the northern districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Sunday. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely in these districts. 

Yellow alerts 

July 23: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram
July 24: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
July 25: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
July 26: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
July 27: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

As high tides and winds gusting up to a 40 - 45 kmph are likely over Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep coasts, fisherfolk should not venture into the sea until July 27. 

Further, in the wake of the rain damage in the last few days, common people are advised to remain vigilant and relocate themselves to safe zones.
