Cops enter Attappadi forest in search of cannabis, lose way, return after spending night in woods

Palakkad: A group of policemen who ventured into Attappadi forests as part of a cannabis hunt has been brought back to safety after getting lost in the woods. 

The cops had set out on the challenging ‘mission’ on Tuesday early morning. 

The team led by DySP S Jayakrishnan, comprised seven other police officials, and five officials from the forest department.  They had set out on the mission from Gottiyarkandi. 

The officials reportedly got lost in the forest stretch adjacent to the tribal hamlets near by the Bhavani river. On their way back after destroying the cannabis field, the team was left stranded on rocks as the night set in.    

However, since a signal was available in one of the team members' phones, they could pass on information about the ‘situation’ to the outside world.   

Rescue operations had begun by Tuesday night. A quick response team was also deployed to locate the lost officers.      

Combined efforts of the rescue team eventually proved successful.
