Thiruvananthapuram: PK Sasi has resigned from his post as chairman of the KTDC amid growing estrangement from the CPM and speculation about his political future.

Sasi, a former MLA from Shoranur, had earlier been demoted from the CPM district committee to the branch level. The disciplinary action followed allegations of irregularities in the functioning of a party-controlled cooperative college in Mannarkkad and claims that funds had been received from party-linked cooperative institutions for the college.

He has reportedly been at odds with the party leadership for some time and did not attend the recent LDF rally led by MV Govindan. While Sasi cited health reasons for his absence, party sources indicate that differences with the leadership may have played a role. Despite requests from senior leaders to attend the rally, he did not respond.

There has also been speculation that Sasi could join the UDF, with rumours suggesting he may contest as an Independent candidate backed by the UDF in Ottappalam. It had been widely expected that he would make a significant political move when Opposition Leader VD Satheesan’s Navayuga Yatra reached Palakkad, but no such announcement was made.

Meanwhile, the CPM had reportedly initiated steps to remove him from the KTDC chairman’s post. His resignation comes against this backdrop of mounting political uncertainty.
