Kannur: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday dismissed actor Dileep's allegation that senior police officers conspired against him in the 2017 actress assault case.

Speaking at an event in Kannur, Vijayan said, “It is simply an attempt at self‑justification. Investigating officers act solely on the basis of the evidence before them."

Dileep was acquitted in the high-profile actress assault case on Monday, while the court found the first six accused guilty.

Vijayan added that the details of the verdict are still awaited, and only once they are released will matters become clear.

“The prosecution has argued the case effectively. The rest will be considered and acted upon accordingly,” he said.

Responding to criticism from the United Democratic Front (UDF) convenor, who alleged that the government was pursuing an appeal in vain, Vijayan said this reflected only the UDF’s stance, not that of the wider public.

“The government has always stood with the survivor. The comments made by Adoor Prakash were against the sentiments of the people,” he noted.

The Chief Minister further stated that he was not aware of Dileep having filed any complaint or representation regarding the alleged police conspiracy. “Claims of criminal misconduct by the police are merely attempts at self‑justification,” he concluded.
