Panoor: The police rejected the CPM State secretary’s contention that innocent DYFI leaders are being named as accused in the Parur blast case, presenting evidence against arrested DYFI leader Amal Babu in its report. The remand report of him also says that Amal tried to tamper with the evidence.

According to the police, Amal reached the spot immediately after the blast and hid other bombs some 200 meters away. The remand report also says that he tried to destroy evidence by spreading sand on the spot.

It is learned that the police have also received evidence that he communicated with the bomb makers over the phone.

Amal Babu is the volunteer captain of CPM Kunnothparamba.

CPM State secretary M V Govindan had alleged that a move was being made to destroy the party ahead of the elections and that the police had implicated a DYFI comrade who had come to volunteer at the spot of explosion.

The accident took place on April 5 on the terrace of a house at Muliyathode, Panoor. Sheril (31), a resident of Kaivelikkal, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. The other injured person, Vineesh, lost one of his palms. Out of the six people arrested in the case, two are DYFI office bearers.
