Palakkad records hottest day of 40°C

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala summer will continue to be extremely hot, according to the India Meteorological Department as Palakkad recorded the highest temperature of 40˚C on Saturday. IMD has now issued a yellow alert for nine districts and has warned that temperatures will likely be be two or three degrees above the normal temperature until April 3, 2024. 

The highest temperatures are probably going to be around 40˚C in Palakkad, 39˚C in the districts of Kollam and Thrissur; approximately 37˚C in the districts of Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur; and around 36˚C in the district of Thiruvananthapuram. 

Due to high temperatures and humidity, these districts, except hilly areas, may experience higher temperatures that can cause discomfort. This is the first time in five years that Kerala has recorded temperatures hitting 40°C.
