Paddy procurement: Kerala witnesses 17,347-ton drop compared to last year

Thrissur: As paddy procurement draws to a close, there is a deficit of 17,347 tons in the state, shows data. This year, 7,31,056 tons were gathered via Supplyco while last year it was 7,48,403 tons. The officials claim that the cessation of the practice and sale of paddy amassed from Tamil Nadu through Supplyco is the reason for this deficit.

A vigilance investigation revealed that paddy bought for 19-20 rupees from Tamil Nadu is being distributed through Supplyco. Following this, the officials adopted stringent inspection measures to curb the practice.  

This year, the procurement from Alappuzha and Thrissur was 24,126 tons and 9,072 tons, respectively. While there was a reduction of 57,853 tons of paddy procurement from Palakkad.

In 2020-2021 the procurement was 7,64,885 tons. Compared to that procurement in the state in the last two years was low.
