Thiruvananthapuram: National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will set up 11 toll booths along the 646 km stretch of much-heralded six-lane National Highway-66 in Kerala.

The NHAI has already started building toll booths, which should appear every 50 to 60 km. In the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, there would be two toll booths, while the remaining districts would only have one.

The Centre expects to open the route between Talapady (Kasaragod) and Karode (Thiruvananthapuram) to the public by 2025.

NHAI, which directly collect tolls, would reduce rates by 40 per cent once they manage to recoup the cost incurred for NH development.

Meanwhile, NHAI has completed the construction of 8 out of 20 reaches. The construction of the remaining reaches, which was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on December 2022, is ongoing in various parts of the state.
