MV Jayarajan will continue as the Kannur CPM district secretary. The district party conference has re-elected him to the position. Reports had earlier suggested that he had requested the state leadership to relieve him due to health issues. This marks the second time that MV Jayarajan has been appointed district secretary.

The new 50-member district committee will include 10 fresh faces. Among the inductees are K. Anusree, the SFI state president, and MV Nikesh Kumar, who has joined the committee.
MV Jayarajan was first appointed as district secretary in 2019, succeeding P. Jayarajan, who contested the Lok Sabha elections from Vadakara.

There were also speculations about the possible candidacy for the district secretary position of KK Ragesh, the Chief Minister's private secretary and a member of the party's state committee, as well as TV Rajesh, who had held the secretary's responsibilities previously. However, MV Jayarajan has retained the position.
