Monsoon: Kerala records 40% deficit rainfall despite brief revival in September

Kozhikode: Despite receiving good rainfall in the final days of the monsoon, Kerala experienced an overall deficit of 40 per cent this season.
Rainfall in the Wayanad and Idukki districts is 56 per cent below average. The state received excess rainfall only in September.
According to data accessible until September 20, the state recorded 274.6 mm of rainfall this month, while it was 272.7 mm the previous year.
Except for Idukki, Wayanad, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kottayam, all other districts received adequate rainfall in September. In comparison to the first four days of September, which recorded 51 mm of rain, the entire month of August received only 59.6 mm of rainfall.
In June and August, the state recorded 60 per cent and 87 per cent rainfall deficits, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that the monsoon would begin to recede by September 25.
