PM Modi visits relief camp, interacts with Wayanad landslide survivors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the St. Joseph's Girls Higher Secondary School relief camp in Meppadi on Saturday afternoon and began interacting with survivors from the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad. He is meeting nine representatives from among the thousands of victims housed in the camp. Modi is also set to visit MIMS Hospital to speak with four individuals who have been impacted by the disaster. Following this, he will attend a review meeting at the Wayanad Collectorate.

Before his arrival at the camp, Modi walked through the landslide-hit regions to survey the extent of the tragedy. He travelled by road to Chooralmala, where he inspected a 190-foot-long Bailey bridge built by the army after the disaster. Modi walked on the bridge to survey the damage.

He landed at Kalpetta SKMJ School ground after conducting the aerial survey in an Indian Air Force helicopter. Accompanying the Prime Minister were Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi.

PM reached Kannur International Airport by around 11:00 am. There, he was welcomed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor Arif Mohammed Khan. Modi, accompanied by the CM, the governor, and Minister Suresh Gopi then departed by three helicopters at approximately 11:15 am en route to Wayanad.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Kannur by 3:15 PM and will then depart for Delhi at 3:55 PM. Wayanad Collector DR Meghashree has announced that no search operations will take place in the disaster-stricken areas today due to the restrictions in place for the Prime Minister's visit. She added that volunteers and personnel involved in search efforts will not be allowed to enter these areas; however, public search activities are set to resume on Sunday.
