Malabar Milma to offer benefits worth Rs 17 Cr to dairy farmers

Kunnamangalam: Malabar Milma will pay RS 17 crore in the next three months as additional milk price and fodder subsidy to dairy farmers. This  decision was made by the governing body of the Malabar regional union.

An additional price of Rs 2 per litre will be paid for milk of a specified quality for a period of three months from June 1, the World Milk Day. Thus an amount of Rs 12 crore will reach the dairy farmers of Malabar in the coming three months. 

Along with the milk price, the additional Rs 2 will also be transferred to the diaries every 10th day for payment to the farmers. The current average price for a litre of milk is Rs 45.95. This has gone up to Rs 47.95.

A subsidy of Rs 250 per 50 kg-sack of Milma Gomathi fodder and Rs 50 per 50 kg-bag of TMR fodder will be offered from June 1 to August 31. In this manner, farmers will receive an amount of Rs 5 crore. Milma Gomathi fodder, which is currently priced at Rs 1,420 will be available at Rs 1,170 after subsidy.

Around one lakh dairy farmers and 1,200 Anand model dairy groups in the Malabar region will be the beneficiaries of the above mentioned benefits. Milma chairman K.S Mani and managing director K C James said that Malabar Milma aims at reducing the cost of milk production and ensuring farmer welfare.
