Thenkurissi honour killing case: Lifer for Haritha's father, uncle; each fined Rs 50,000

Palakkad: In the Thenkurissi honour killing case, the court sentenced two accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each.

Both the accused were found guilty of the crime earlier by the Palakkad District Additional Sessions Court Judge R Vinayak Rao on October 25.

The incident occurred on December 25, 2020, when Anish (27), who married Haritha belonging to a different caste, was murdered by her father and uncle just 88 days after their wedding.

Following their marriage, conflicts escalated between Anish and Haritha's family. Anish was ambushed and fatally attacked by Suresh and Prabhukumar, the first and second accused in the case, while he was riding a motorcycle with his brother. The prosecution argued that it was an honour killing by Haritha's family that was opposed to her relationship with Anish.

Anish, son of Radha and Arumughan at Elamandam, was attacked by Haritha's father Prabhukumar (43) and her maternal uncle Suresh (45), who were later arrested by the police. 

The local police initially investigated the case, which was later taken over by the Crime Branch, leading to the submission of a charge sheet within 75 days, citing honour killing as the motive. 

In addition to murder, conspiracy and destruction of evidence, charges were also filed against the defendants.

The investigation was led by DySP C Sundaran, with Advocate P Anil representing the prosecution and 110 witnesses presented.

The prosecution had presented evidence, including the two motorcycles used by the accused and a knife.
