KSU attack case: Ex-CM aide accused of intervening to change Veena George’s statement

Pathanamthitta, Kerala: Allegations have emerged that the statement given by the gunman in the case relating to the alleged attack on Health Minister Veena George by KSU workers at Kannur railway station in February was altered.
A close relative of Veena alleged that the statement was changed to claim that she was attacked with a deadly weapon following the intervention of P. Sasi, former political secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The relative, speaking to Mathrubhumi on condition of anonymity, also claimed that Veena’s husband had urged that she should not be fielded in the election because of what he described as increasing interventions by the leader against her.
“When the incident (KSU episode) happened, Veena had said there was no need for a complaint. But the gunman said the police could not avoid registering a case. That was how the gunman gave his statement. The statement was that official duty was obstructed and that a group had rushed at her together,” the person said.
“However, P. Sasi instructed that this statement be changed into one claiming that there was an attempt to murder using a deadly weapon,” the person claimed.
“After the election, Veena informed Kannur police officers who visited her house about these matters. She had also told the police that there was no need for a case alleging an attack using a deadly weapon. There was an attempt to create the impression that the minister had been attacked in order to gain an advantage in the election. This did not happen with the knowledge of Pinarayi Vijayan. But it eventually led to allegations that Veena was lying and staging drama. The defeat in Aranmula was the result. Women who had supported Veena turned against her in large numbers,” the person remarked.
“When the attack happened, there was no situation requiring admission to the ICU. But when her husband saw everything unfolding as though it had been planned by others, he intervened and secured discharge at 4 am before returning home,” the person added.
I did not speak to anyone: P. Sasi
However, P. Sasi told Mathrubhumi that he had not spoken to anyone regarding the incident involving the attack on Veena George.
“These are allegations without any factual basis. The police have registered a case. They are conducting an investigation,” he said.
