Leaders attend family function of Periya double murder accused; KPCC announces probe

Kasaragod: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) would probe the presence of several Congress leaders at the wedding reception of the son of an accused in the Periya double murder case. The probe will also delve into the subsequent Facebook posts that appeared following the event. A committee, possibly comprising a member of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC), will conduct the investigation.
DCC President P K Faisal confirmed that a comprehensive report has been submitted to the KPCC leadership. Pullur-Periya Mandalam President Pramod Periya attended the wedding reception of N Balakrishnan's son. Balakrishnan stands as the 13th accused in the murder case of Youth Congress workers Sarathlal and Kripesh. After the incident came to light, Pramod was removed from his post.
Pramod alleged the presence of numerous leaders at the controversial reception. In response, Rajmohan Unnithan took to Facebook, asserting that regardless of their stature, those attending such events would not find a place within the Congress.
Following this, KPCC Secretary Balakrishnan Periya posted against Rajmohan Unnithan. However, Balakrishnan later withdrew his post, citing that he did so after receiving calls from party leaders, including K. C Venugopal. He also said that a press conference would be conducted to clarify matters, which did not take place. Balakrishnan clarified that it was cancelled due to leadership intervention, explaining that KPCC President K Sudhakaran was briefed on the issue.
However, Rajmohan Unnithan ridiculed Balakrishnan's withdrawal of the post, insisting that the sentiments of Congress workers must be acknowledged and action should be taken against those involved in the controversial reception.
