150-year-old clock tower crashes onto platform at Kozhikode railway station | VIDEO

Kozhikode: A clock tower at Kozhikode railway station collapsed onto Platform 2 on Thursday morning, narrowly averting a major disaster. No injuries have been reported so far.
The incident occurred at around 11.10 am while the Kozhikode–Kannur passenger train was stationed at the platform. Although railway staff were present in the area, they managed to move to safety before the structure came crashing down. There were reportedly no passengers near the site at the time, preventing what could have been a serious tragedy.
According to preliminary reports, authorities had earlier warned about the deteriorating condition of the nearly 150-year-old clock tower.
Kozhikode has been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past few days, raising concerns about the structural stability of the ageing tower. Officials said the collapse occurred while precautionary safety measures were being undertaken.
As a precaution, the area has been cordoned off amid fears that the remaining portion of the clock tower could also collapse. Railway authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged people to stay away from the affected area.
