Kochi drug bust: Excise seeks custody of accused, suspect initial statements to be false

Kochi: In the case where 350 grams of MDMA was recovered from the Kaloor International stadium premises, the excise team has made an appeal to the court seeking custody of the four accused for further investigation. They hope that this request will be granted soon.
Four youngsters, including a woman, were caught in connection with the incident. The arrested were identified as Susimol (24), Elroy (21), Ajmal (25) and Ameer (22). While Susimol hailed from Kottayam, the rest of them were Ernakulam natives.
The excise team is collecting the phone records and other digital evidence of the accused. Information about their financial transactions are also being collected. Only after questioning will the facts regarding the activities of the gang will be known.
Excise officials suspect that many of the statements given by the accused when they were arrested are false. They believe that the statements made by the accused about a person called Sachin alias Commander are done to purposely mislead the investigation.
The gang’s modus operandi is to bring the chemical intoxicants to the place where the middlemen demand. A rival gang received tips about their movements. That is how excise officials received the tip about the illegal drug deal involving 350 grams of MDMA. It is believed that the gang would sell the substances smuggled in from Himachal Pradesh and send the money online.
This is one of the biggest drug busts carried out in Kochi during recent times. MDMA was stuffed in several bags placed inside the car. Drugs were seized from the pockets of Ameer’s clothes as well.
