Heavy rainfall is set to continue across Kerala on Saturday, July 18, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the state.

While most districts are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, isolated places could witness intense downpours.

The IMD has placed Thrissur under an Orange Alert, warning of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas until Saturday afternoon.

The department has advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying regions and areas vulnerable to waterlogging and landslides.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, where heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.

The remaining districts have a possibility of light to moderate rain without any major weather warning.

According to the weather department, the ongoing wet spell is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in some areas.

Authorities have urged people living near rivers, streams and landslide-prone hilly regions to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.

Disaster management officials have also advised the public to closely monitor weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities. Fishermen, tourists, and those planning outdoor activities have been asked to exercise caution as weather conditions may change rapidly.

The IMD's latest forecast indicates that the monsoon will remain active over Kerala during the weekend, bringing intermittent showers across much of the state.

Rainfall intensity is expected to vary from district to district, with northern and central Kerala likely to experience heavier spells.

Residents have been urged to secure loose objects, avoid flooded roads, and report any emergencies to local disaster response teams.

The authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation and have appealed to the public not to spread unverified information regarding rainfall or flood-related incidents.

With the monsoon remaining active, people are advised to stay updated through official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions, especially in districts under orange and yellow alerts.
