Kerala weather: Heat surge pushes temperatures up to 40°C; yellow alert issued across districts

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued a yellow alert across several districts as the state prepares for a sharp rise in temperatures. The warning was released at 01:30 PM on Wednesday, April 15.
The alert flags that maximum temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal for this time of year. It is based on forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and will remain in force until April 19. The advisory is classified as a “Watch” status, urging people to stay updated on changing conditions.
Palakkad, Kollam, Kottayam record highest forecasts
Palakkad is expected to register the highest temperatures, with readings likely touching 40°C at isolated locations. Kollam is forecast to reach 39°C, while Kottayam may see temperatures of around 38°C.
In these districts, temperatures are projected to remain 2–3°C above the seasonal average. Conditions are expected to be markedly warmer than usual.
A wider spread of districts is also placed under a 37°C forecast. These include Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. Thiruvananthapuram is expected to record a maximum of 36°C.
The weather pattern indicates that only a limited number of regions are currently outside specific temperature warnings as elevated heat conditions extend across coastal and midland areas.
Humidity forecast until April 19 across state
The KSDMA has also stated that hot and humid conditions are likely to persist across all the mentioned districts from 15 to 19 April.
These conditions are expected across most parts of the state, while hilly regions are excluded from the humidity forecast.
Authorities have retained the yellow alert through the period to maintain public preparedness amid continuing warm and humid weather conditions.
