Thiruvalla: In another harrowing minor rape incident, a 17-year-old girl was raped in a park in Thiruvalla, Kerala, leading to her pregnancy. The accused, a 26-year-old man named Jesvin, has been arrested based on the survivor’s mother’s complaint and remanded in judicial custody.

The incident, which came to light last month, occurred in a park within the jurisdiction of Thiruvalla police station and Kaviyoor panchayat. The victim reported the rape to the police, stating that the incident happened in afternoon at 3:00 pm.

Medical intervention, CWC assistance

A medical examination confirmed the girl's pregnancy which was at 6 weeks. Considering her age, future, and the early stage of pregnancy, doctors, with the approval of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), performed an abortion at Kottayam Medical College. The girl's health is currently stable.

To confirm the accused's involvement, the police have collected a DNA sample from the fetus for further analysis. This will help determine if the accused is the father of the child.

The Thiruvalla police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
