Kerala rains: Yellow alert for 8 districts; Thunderstorm expected at Sabarimala

Thiruvananthapuram: A low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has intensified and is expected to become a severe low pressure. The system is predicted to move northwestwards and reach the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coast within the next two days.

Due to the expected heavy rains, a yellow alert has been issued for several districts in Kerala. The warning is in place until November 28, with a yellow alert for eight districts today (Tuesday). 

The affected districts are:

  • Thiruvananthapuram
  • Kollam
  • Pathanamthitta
  • Ernakulam
  • Idukki
  • Thrissur
  • Palakkad
  • Malappuram

The yellow alert will continue for more districts in the coming days. On Wednesday, the alert will cover:

  • Ernakulam
  • Idukki
  • Thrissur
  • Palakkad
  • Malappuram

On Thursday, the alert will remain for:

  • Idukki
  • Palakkad
  • Malappuram

Sabarimala weather

Rainfall is expected on Tuesday in Sabarimala, Sannidhanam, Pampa, and Nilakkal, with the possibility of thunderstorms and rain in the afternoon.
