IMD issues orange alert in 3 Kerala districts, forecasts rainfall across several parts of the state

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a special bulletin on Thursday, forecasting widespread rainfall across Kerala in the coming days. The forecast indicates rain or thundershowers are likely at most places on December 12 (Tuesday) and December 17 (Monday). Rain will occur at many places on December 13 (Friday) and December 18 (Wednesday), while fewer showers are expected at a few places on December 14 (Saturday) and December 16 (Sunday). A solitary shower is possible at one or two locations on December 15 (Sunday).
Low-pressure Area Intensifies
The IMD identified a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Sri Lanka. Currently, the system lies over the Gulf of Mannar and its surrounding areas, with an associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending to mid-tropospheric levels. The system is predicted to move west-northwestward towards South Tamil Nadu, gradually weakening.

Orange Alert: Very heavy rainfall (115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours) on Friday for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta.
