IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rainfall in 4 Kerala districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a bulletin on Wednesday, forecasting isolated rainfall across select districts in Kerala. Light to moderate rainfall is expected at a few places across the state on Wednesday and Thursday, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms and lightning.
The IMD has also predicted isolated heavy rainfall on Wednesday and next Tuesday (November 26). In particular, a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours) in select districts on Wednesday. The districts are:
- Thiruvananthapuram
- Kollam
- Pathanamthitta
- Idukki
Cyclonic circulations influencing weather patterns
According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the South Andaman Sea and adjacent regions by Thursday. This system is likely to develop into a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal by Saturday and intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal within two days.
Currently, another cyclonic circulation persists over the Comorin area and its neighbourhood at lower atmospheric levels. Additionally, a similar system is present over the southeast Arabian Sea, off the Kerala coast. These weather systems are contributing to the anticipated heavy rainfall in the state.
