Idukki Arch Dam draws 27,000 visitors in 2 months amid entry restrictions: Know more

Cheruthoni (Idukki): The Idukki Arch Dam has drawn a massive influx of visitors since it was opened to the public on September 1. In the past two months, as many as 27,700 tourists have visited the site. According to official figures available up to October 24, the visitors included 25,060 adults and 2,640 children.
The Idukki Arch Dam, which links the Kuravan and Kurathi hills, together with the nearby Cheruthoni Dam, offers tourists a breathtaking view of the landscape. The location witnessed heavy tourist flow during festive holidays such as Onam, Vijayadasami and Diwali.
Currently, public access to the dam is subject to certain restrictions. There is no entry on Wednesdays when maintenance inspections are carried out, as well as on red and orange alert days. For safety reasons, walking over the dams is prohibited. Visitors can travel only in buggy cars operated by the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre authorities.
Tickets for the visit can be purchased online through the official website www.keralahydeltourism.com. A ticket counter has also been set up near the entrance of Cheruthoni Dam, where visitors can buy tickets if seats remain available after online booking.
The entrance to the site can be accessed through the route in front of Kolumban Samadhi at Paremavu on the Cheruthoni–Thodupuzha road. The return route passes in front of the Medical College, offering an organised and scenic journey for tourists.
