Heavy showers to lash Kerala: Orange alerts out, full district-wise warning inside

Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala for the next three days, with varying alerts in place across different regions of the state. While the intensity of rain is expected to ease in the southern districts, several central and northern districts remain under weather advisories.

An Orange Alert has been issued today (26 September) for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki, signalling the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert is in effect for Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad.

Looking ahead:

On Saturday (27 September), an Orange Alert has been issued for northern districts — Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

Yellow Alerts are in place for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram on the same day.

On Sunday (28 September), Yellow Alerts have been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

Thunderstorm and lightning advisory

The IMD has also warned of isolated thunderstorms with lightning today and tomorrow (26 and 27 September), urging the public to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to weather-related hazards.

Strong wind warning

In addition to the rainfall, strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely to affect isolated areas across Kerala between 26 and 28 September, according to a joint update by the IMD, Kerala State Emergency Operations Centre (KSEOC), and Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA).
