Kerala health department issues warning amid continued heavy rains

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala health minister Veena George has issued a warning to the public about the potential health risks associated with the continued heavy rains in the state. She has advised people to take special care in case of ongoing infections and to seek medical attention immediately if they develop any symptoms.
The department has also alerted hospitals and other healthcare facilities to be prepared for an increase in the number of patients due to the rains. Flooded health facilities have been instructed to make necessary alternative arrangements to ensure that patients continue to receive care.
The minister said that the department has set up three mobile floating dispensaries and a water ambulance in Alappuzha's Kuttanad region, which is particularly vulnerable to flooding.
She also warned people about the increased risk of dengue and rabies during the rainy season. She advised people to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, such as using mosquito nets and wearing long sleeves and pants. She also advised people to clean up any stagnant water around their homes and businesses, as this can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
In addition, the minister urged people to be careful against diarrheal diseases. She advised people to drink only boiled water and to keep food and water covered. She also advised people in relief camps to wear masks.
Finally, the minister reminded people not to self-medicate if they develop a fever. She urged them to seek medical attention immediately.
