Kerala govt extends state police chief’s tenure by one year

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has approved a one-year extension for State Police Chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar, keeping him in office until June 30, 2027.

The decision was announced following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, according to a statement from his office. Chandrasekhar, who assumed charge on July 1, 2025, was originally due to retire on June 30 this year.

Wage hike for rural scheme contractual staff

In the same meeting, the Cabinet approved a 10 per cent wage increase for contractual employees working under various positions in the rural employment guarantee scheme.

The salary revision will take effect from April 1, the statement said.

New self-help groups for persons with disabilities

The Cabinet also decided to establish ‘Sushakti’ self-help groups under the Kerala State Disabled Welfare Corporation.

These groups aim for the comprehensive empowerment and upliftment of persons with disabilities, the statement added.
