Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar visited former chief minister and senior CPM leader VS Achuthanandan at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram. Speaking to the media after the visit, the Governor expressed his long-held admiration for Achuthanandan, stating that he had heard of him since his college days. Arlekar described the veteran leader as someone who led an exemplary public life.

“I had always wanted to meet him, and I’m fortunate that I finally had the opportunity to talk with VS and his family,” said Arlekar. “Although he couldn’t speak due to illness, I was able to communicate with him, and I sincerely pray for his good health,” he added.

During the media interaction, Governor Arlekar also addressed questions regarding the UGC Bill. He clarified that only the draft policy has been released, and emphasised that in a democratic system, everyone is free to express their opinions, with ample room for discussions.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's visit to Raj Bhavan

Earlier, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had visited the Raj Bhavan for a friendly meeting with the Governor. This meeting marked a positive gesture, highlighting the Governor's open approach to fostering relationships with state leaders.

In a recent article in the CPM mouthpiece, CPM State Secretary M V Govindan praised Governor Arlekar for his emphasis on building a ‘new Kerala,’ aligning with the LDF’s goals. Govindan also welcomed the Governor’s readiness to perform his constitutional duties, despite criticism directed at the Central Government.

Govindan noted that unlike the previous Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Arlekar had agreed to read the entire policy speech of the state government, reinforcing expectations of a similar approach in the future.
