Thiruvananthapuram: The controversy surrounding IPS officer M R Ajith Kumar's alleged meeting with a senior RSS leader intensified on Saturday. Reports emerged that ADGP Kumar had informed the Chief Minister's office that his visit was personal, sparking strong reactions from both the ruling party ally CPI and the opposition Congress. Discussions on the matter are currently ongoing at the Chief Minister's official residence, Cliff House.

A critical meeting was held between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Kerala DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, during which the DGP reportedly presented the investigation details concerning ADGP Kumar. Chief Minister's Political Secretary P Sasi and MP John Brittas also attended, alongside Crime Branch in-charge ADGP H Venkatesh.

Reports indicated that ADGP Kumar, who oversees law and order, had met with two RSS leaders. The controversy escalated when the ruling CPM dismissed Congress claims that Kumar acted as a 'middleman' between the Chief Minister and RSS to disrupt the Thrissur Pooram festival, aiming to secure the BJP's Lok Sabha election victory in Thrissur.

PV Anwar MLA also lodged serious allegations against Kumar, prompting complaints to the Chief Minister and Party Secretary. The ongoing meeting is being held in response to these issues.

The CPI, a major coalition partner in the LDF, criticized Kumar's explanation, questioning the nature and purpose of his meeting with RSS leaders Ram Madhav and Dattatreya Hosabale. CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam expressed concern that such meetings could undermine public trust, emphasizing that the LDF and RSS have no common political or ideological interests.
