Communal remarks: Kerala ex-MLA PC George faces arrest as police issue summons

Erattupetta, Kerala: BJP leader and former Poonjar MLA PC George faces imminent arrest after the Kerala High Court denied his anticipatory bail plea over alleged communal remarks.

The Erattupetta police served a notice at his residence, directing him to appear by 2 p.m. on Saturday. However, George was reportedly not at home, and his son, Shaun George, received the notice on his behalf.

The case was registered by the Erattupetta police following George’s alleged anti-religious remarks during a television debate. His statements led to legal action, with police moving forward with proceedings against him.

Court cites past violations
The High Court dismissed George’s anticipatory bail plea the previous day, criticising his conduct despite his three-decade-long political career. The court observed that he was easily provoked and remarked that he was unfit to continue as a politician due to his temper.

The ruling also referenced past cases where he was granted anticipatory bail under strict conditions not to repeat such remarks. However, his failure to comply with these conditions was a key factor in rejecting his plea. The court further stated that granting him bail despite repeated violations would send the wrong message to society.

PC George had been arrested earlier in a case related to a speech allegedly inciting communal hatred. His history of making provocative statements has repeatedly drawn legal scrutiny.
