Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Chief Electoral Officer, Ratan U Khelkar, has emphasised that applications to add names to the voter list received after March 15 will not be considered for the April 9 assembly elections.

Any applications submitted after this date will be processed only after the completion of the election procedures and the declaration of results on May 4.

Although voters can submit applications until March 23, which is also the last date for filing nominations, the verification and inclusion process takes at least 10 days. This is why March 15 has been set as the effective cutoff date.

How to check if your name is on the voter list

Voters can check their status online using the official CEO Kerala website or through the cVIGIL app. First-time voters are encouraged to verify their names and details to avoid any last-minute issues at polling stations.

Election commission explanation

According to the Election Commission, while legal provisions allow applications until the last day of nomination submissions, the practical process of verification requires time. The CEO stated, “Applications received after March 15 cannot be completed before the election held on April 9.”

Voting schedule and key dates

  • Voting in all 140 constituencies of Kerala will take place in a single phase on April 9.
  • March 23 is the final date for submitting nominations.
  • Scrutiny of nominations will be on March 24.
  • Last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 26.
  • Vote counting will be conducted on May 4.

Voter statistics

Kerala currently has 2.71 crore registered voters, including 1.31 crore men, 1.38 crore women, and 277 transgender voters. More than 4.24 lakh first-time voters are eligible to cast their vote for the first time this election cycle.

Election monitoring and compliance

The authorities have received over 1.39 lakh complaints regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct, including 33,194 complaints filed via the cVIGIL app. A Fake News Detection Unit and other monitoring systems have been put in place to ensure a transparent election process.
