Trikaripur (Kasaragod): The Kasaragod District Panchayat is launching a new initiative called 'Akshaya Matrimony' to help youngsters find brides and grooms without the hassle of middlemen or expensive matrimonial websites. This service aims to assist those who may be struggling to find a partner, especially economically disadvantaged youth.

The 'Akshaya Matrimony' portal will be available through the Akshaya centre in the district. The District Panchayat is currently reviewing the detailed plan for the project. The project is being funded with an initial funding of Rs 15 lakh for the first year, and it is planned to be expanded to other districts in the future.

Easy registration process

To create a profile, users will only need to pay a small registration fee to cover data collection costs. Both men and women can sign up on the portal, receiving an ID and password to access their profiles. Users can express interest in potential matches either online or by visiting an Akshaya Kendra in person.

Special camps to be organised

In a second phase of the initiative, special camps will be organised to support daily wage earners and those with lower educational qualifications who are having difficulty finding partners. These camps will work with local leaders and institutions to bring in women from nearby areas, including Karnataka and Coorg, to meet the marriage needs of local men. Registration at these camps will be free, and assistance with wedding planning will also be provided.

Focus on privacy and support

Akshaya District Project Manager Kapildev explains that the ‘Akshaya Matrimony’ is designed to address the challenges faced by young men and women seeking partners. The portal will use advanced technology to match profiles based on personal interests while ensuring users' privacy.

Affordable and comprehensive services

District Panchayat President Baby Balakrishnan states that the 'Akshaya Matrimony' system will be the first government-run matrimonial service in the state. It aims to make the search for a partner affordable and accessible to everyone. The project also plans to offer pre-marriage counselling, marriage assistance and event management services in collaboration with Kudumbashree and the Social Security Department.
