K'taka CM questions Kerala’s silence on offer to build 100 homes for Wayanad landslide victims

Thiruvananthapuram: In a surprising turn of events, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to his Kerala counterpart, Pinarayi Vijayan, seeking clarification on the lack of communication regarding his earlier assurance to build 100 houses for families affected by the Wayanad landslides.

"...It is concerning that no communication has been received from the Government of Kerala regarding the necessary guidelines or directions to implement this project, preventing us from moving forward with commitment," it says in the letter issued by Karnataka CMO's office. It also says that the official communication regarding the state's offer was also communicated with Vijayan's office.

In the letter, Siddaramaiah also stated that the Karnataka government is prepared to purchase land to facilitate the construction of the homes.

The Karnataka government, however, stated that Kerala has yet to respond to its offer, leaving it in a challenging position. This development comes as Kerala remains locked in a political standoff with the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre over the alleged lack of financial aid for the Wayanad landslides.

Earlier, Siddaramaiah announced the construction of 100 houses for the affected families. Sharing the news on X, Siddaramaiah expressed solidarity with Kerala and offered support to its Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan.

"In light of the tragic landslide in Wayanad, Karnataka stands in solidarity with Kerala. I have assured CM Shri @pinarayivijayan of our support and announced that Karnataka will construct 100 houses for the victims. Together, we will rebuild and restore hope," Siddaramaiah wrote.

In a personal phone call, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his gratitude for the assistance and support from Karnataka.
