Thiruvananthapuram: Despite demands from nine district committees for the removal of Minister K Krishnankutty, JD(S) state president Mathew T Thomas has firmly stated that discussions on replacing the minister will not be entertained. Although there were dissenting voices regarding the Minister’s stance on the brewery issue, the leadership meeting ultimately decided to stand with the government.

During the meeting, nine district committees took a position against Krishnankutty. However, Mathew T Thomas made it clear that discussions on changing the minister would not be permitted, asserting that he was exercising his authority as party president. This effectively put an end to the debate.

Krishnankutty faced strong opposition over the Palakkad brewery issue and the extension of a power project contract to a private company. However, he defended his stance in the meeting, arguing that there was no reason to oppose the project.

The Minister has claimed that the situation in Elappully was different from that in Plachimada and assured that the company would not extract groundwater. He also emphasised that the project would benefit farmers. Following this explanation, the leadership meeting decided to align with the government’s position on the matter.
