Kannur: The Vanitha League is in news once again for wrong reasons. It has been forbidden by its parent organisation, Muslim League, from participating in the victory celebrations of Shafi Parambil, who won the Lok Sabha elections from the Vadakara constituency.

League general secretary, Koothuparamba area, Shahul Hameed has sent a voice message on a social media platform to the women workers of the party directing them not to take part in the celebrations. Following that no members of the Vanitha League attended the same.

Meanwhile, Muslim League district president Abdul Kareem Cheleri said there is nothing wrong in Shahul Hameed’s message and that the party stance is also the same.

The women were prevented from participating in the Panoor roadshow and procession held as part of the victory celebrations. The 1.3-minute-long voice message states that they need to be disciplined and that the religion is not supporting any activities like excited celebrations like roadshows. So they need to just greet the winner.

On the counting day, women league workers were seen dancing as part of the victory celebrations.

‘Women need not mingle with men during victory celebrations’

Abdul Kaleem also said the women should show some discipline while engaging in social activities and participating in celebrations. The party stance is that the men and women need not mingle much during such celebrations.

He also said the party State president has directed much before the elections to limit such celebrations. "Islam religion is preventing women from doing certain things. So there is nothing controversial in this. The party had just reminded the women of the same," he added.

“Women cannot interfere in every matter like men. Women also know this,” he said.

We're welcoming the direction: Vanitha League

Vanitha League district president C Seenath said they are welcoming the direction from the party leaders. It is wrong to dance without any control in victory processions, she said, reiterating that the religion prevents women from doing certain things.
