Kerala weather updates: IMD forecasts heavy rainfall; orange alert in 4 districts today

Thiruvananthapuram: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kerala on Monday.
An orange alert (Heavy rainfall (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) to Very Heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hours)) is sounded for today in the Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Idukki districts. Similarly, Heavy rainfall (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram.
Meanwhile, IMD has predicted the formation of a Low-Pressure Area over the southeast and adjoining East central Arabian Sea during the next 48 hours.
"Yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep area and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea & Kerala coast now lies over Southeast Arabian Sea & adjoining Lakshadweep area in lower tropospheric levels and extends upto 3.1 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, A Low-Pressure Area is likely to develop over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea during the next 48 hours. It is likely to move further west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the central Arabian Sea around 21 October 2023," IMD said in a weather update.
Yellow alert ( 16 Oct 2023): Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.
Yellow Alert (17 Oct 2023): Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Malappuram.
"Rain or thundershowers is most likely to occur at most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep from 16 th to 18th and at many places from 19th to 22nd October 2023," IMD added.
