Horse attacks boy in Munnar, family alleges owner threatened them

Munnar: A riding horse attacked a 12-year-old boy who was engaged in playing with his friends here on Friday. Stanish, son of Shanu in Korandakad division at Mattupetty estate of Kannan Devan company was severely injured in the incident and admitted to a hospital. The horse rider has reportedly threatened the boy for not telling the incident to anyone. 

The incident happened on Thursday evening when Stanish and his friends were playing on the ground in Korandakad. Meanwhile, one among the horses brought for riding rushed to the boy and attacked him. The boy fell down and suffered severe injuries on his face and body. The natives who witnessed the incident took the boy to the hospital.

At first, the boy told his parents that he had fallen on the ground while playing. However, the condition of the boy worsened by Friday which urged the parents to quiz him again. It was only then the boy revealed about the attack of the horse and how the horse rider intimidated him. Thereby, the parents lodged a complaint with Devikulam police. 

Shanu said that after the police investigation, the owner of the horses had threatened the family. He informed that a complaint will be filed in the childline also. 

13 horses are used for riding in Korandakad near the Munnar-Mattupetty road. The natives allege that neither safety measures were followed for horse riding here and nor the owner obtained permission from the government. In the evenings, the horses are usually not tied and they freely roam the roadsides.
