'Hindutva vigilantism': Kerala CM slams alleged attack on Catholic priests and nuns in Odisha

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday described the alleged attack on Catholic priests and nuns in Jaleswar of Odisha, over false accusations of religious conversion, as an act of "Hindutva vigilantism”.

Taking to the social media platform X, Vijayan claimed that “Sangh Parivar goons" were behind the assault, calling it a reflection of the "ongoing communal witch-hunt" targeting Christians in the country.
Recalling the recent arrest of the Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh, the Chief Minister hit out at the communal forces. He posted on X that such “Hindutva vigilantism”, enabled by the regime's impunity, must be unitedly resisted by secular and democratic forces.

The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday, when vehicles transporting a group of Catholic priests and nuns were stopped and attacked by locals in Odisha's Balasore district, under the suspicion that they were involved in forced conversions.
