Heavy rains wreak havoc in northern Kerala; 2-storey house collapses in Kannur

Kannur: Widespread heavy rains have been wreaking havoc across the northern states of Kerala, particularly Kozhikode and Kannur. In Kolayad, a two-storey house under construction collapsed around 5 am on Sunday. The house belonged to Babu, a native of Kolayad, Kannur.
Whereas, several houses were damaged after trees got uprooted and fell over them in various places of Kozhikode district such as Nadapuram, Cherumoth, Velloor and Meppayur.
In Chiyyur, a coconut tree fell over a transformer. Further, wells collapsed in the houses of Kuttiyady native Vasu in Kozhikode and Pothukallu native of George in Malappuram.
In another unfortunate incident, a car carrying Tamil Nadu forest officials overturned and fell into a pool of stagnant water in Kalpetta, Wayanad. It is learnt that the accident occurred after the driver lost control in the heavy rains. The passengers escaped with minor injuries.
