Goods train derails in Ernakulam; rail services disrupted

Ernakulam, Kerala: A goods train engine derailed at Kalamassery on Friday afternoon, disrupting services on the route. The incident occurred while the train was shunting, blocking rail traffic and striking an electricity post.
The incident occurred around 3 pm, prompting an immediate restoration effort to resume smooth train movement. With one track blocked, services were allowed to operate on a single line, a senior railway official confirmed.
“First, the Vande Bharat train was allowed to pass, and thereafter other trains were cleared on a priority basis,” the official said.
Restoration teams worked swiftly, and normal traffic was restored on both tracks by around 5:30 pm, bringing operations back to schedule.
What happened to the train?
The goods train, carrying fertiliser from Kalamassery FACT, went off the tracks while manoeuvring. It crossed the barricade at the end of the rail track and collided with an electric post, resulting in the derailment. Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported.
