Govt extends free grocery kit distribution to 4 more months

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has extended the distribution of grocery kits through Public Distribution Systems (PDS) free of cost for all ration card holders in the state, for four more months from September to December, as part of the 100-days programme. This was informed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while briefing media after Covid evaluation meet here on Thursday.

“The move will benefit 88,42,000 families in the state. Government has decided that no one should starve during the Covid pandemic. During the initial days of pandemic and Onam, kits were distributed. The decision to extend the food kit distribution was taken considering the existing crisis due to the pandemic.

The grocery kit prepared by Supplyco will contain 8 items including chickpea, sugar, atta and coconut oil. Also, rice and other essential items will be distributed at a reduced price through Supplyco, Consumerfed and Horticorp. The usual free of ration will be distributed through shops under PDS.
