Thiruvananthapuram: State Food Safety Department will introduce ‘Magic Box’ idea in schools with the intent of providing children safe food. The children will be given awareness of the chemicals and other substances in food items using different instruments and kits. Magic box was developed by Central Food Safety Authority.
Using the tools in the magic box, food items will be examined and it will be shown to the students. This will be used to convince the children of the chemicals and other substances in food items. They will also be shown how junk food affects the health of children and others.
The health department plans to spread awareness using magic box in government aided and unaided schools. They will also use IR thermometers to examine the food quality. Magic Box was developed with the intent of measuring the quality of the food at our homes itself. It contains some chemicals, test tubes and cylinders. It also has lactometer, which can be used to test the quality of milk.
