Lok Sabha logjam
Amid continued logjam in Lok Sabha over a debate on Manipur violence, Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday convened an all-party meeting of floor leaders, in a bid to end the impasse but the government and opposition stuck to their respective stands. Some parties of the opposition INDIA alliance are likely to move a notice for a no-confidence motion against the government in the Lok Sabha in an attempt to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak in Parliament on the Manipur violence, sources said. In the Muttil tree felling case, the tribal farmers on Monday stated that the accused, Roji Augustine, had approached them claiming to possess the village officer’s permit to fell the trees. The tribal farmers own the land from where trees were cut down. Read more

Kerala rain updates
As per the IMD forecast, the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal will intensify soon, resulting in heavy rainfall in Kerala till July 28. Widespread damage in Cherpulassery, Palakkad was witnessed with the sudden onset of a tropical cyclone. Around 15 houses were partially destroyed as trees were uprooted and fell onto houses in Pallattpady in Chalavara. Read more

West Bengal governor Dr C V Ananda Bose has appointed retired Kerala IPS officer M Wahab as vice-chancellor of Aliah University in Kolkata.
