Wayanad: Uncertainty looms large as wild tusker heads to Kerala-K’taka border

Mananthavady: ‘Belur Makna’, the elephant from Karnataka tramped a man to death in Wayanad on Saturday, has moved back to the forest area near the Kerala-Karnataka border. According to the latest reports, the jumbo is roaming near the Mannundi colony, which is 8 km away from Chaligadda. 

Now, officials are looking into the possibility of the elephant retreating voluntarily into the forests. However, people in the Mannundi colony are currently in a panic. The officials are also unsure whether this is the same mozha elephant that killed Ajeesh in Mananthavady. 

Besides assigning several forest officials, the department also brought four Kumki elephants to the Cheloor region for the mission. If the animal reverses course and returns to human settlements, the forest department will have to tranquilise and shift the elephant to a camp in Muthanga.
