Light show: Here's how drones gave spectacular views in Beypore

Kozhikode: All those who saw the drone light show here were filled with awe. The first-ever drone show in Kerala was held at the Beypore Fest on Thursday and Friday. The show was put up by a team led by three IIT Delhi alumni, under the title of a startup Bot Lap Dynamics.

250 drones were used in Beypore to create illusions of the map of India, moving fish, a book that opens, a boat, the Kerala Tourism logo, Kathakali dance form, etc. This amazing sight could be seen from a distance of five kilometres. This exhibition gave a thrill to the viewers without environmental pollution by using fireworks.

Different coloured LEDs were attached to the bottom of the drones. The visual wonder was created through the use of light panels. 3D views were also available. 

“First the animation will be created and details of the scenes will be prepared. After that, it will be changed to a specific code. This code is then downloaded and used in demonstration drones. The software and hardware used are self-developed, Chief drone operator Amitabh Goyal from the team of 14 young techies said.  

Once the master switch is turned, the drones fly on fixed frequencies, and no human assistance is required after that. Operators are only required if an emergency landing has to be made. Where to go, how high to fly, and how to deploy are all pre-determined and fed to the system, thus there is no risk. 

The group has put up more than 100 shows both within and outside the country. They have done demonstrations using up to 5000 drones. Amitabh Goyal noted that the feather on the group’s hat is the show they put up at the Rashtrapati Bhavan using 3000 drones.
