Thiruvananthapuram: An investigation has been ordered into the parody song “Pottiye Kettiye…” that was circulated by the UDF during the local body elections. The Cyber Operations Wing has been entrusted with the probe. ADGP H Venkatesh has forwarded the complaint to the Cyber Operations Wing.

The Tiruvabharanapatha Samrakshana Samithi had filed a complaint with the DGP against the parody song, which was created by altering a devotional Ayyappa song and invoking chants of devotion. A decision was taken to conduct a comprehensive investigation based on the complaint. Accordingly, the State Police Chief handed over the complaint to ADGP H Venkatesh. He has directed the Kerala Police Cyber Operations Wing to conduct an inquiry and submit a report. The Cyber Operations Wing has begun the investigation.

The probe team is examining whether the song contains defamatory references and, if so, under which legal provisions a case can be registered.

The complaint demands action against both those who created the song and those who used it. Both the UDF and the BJP had used the song in their election campaigns.
