Kerala logs 24,296 new Covid cases on Tuesday; TPR at 18.04 percent

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 24,296 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, informed the health department through a press release. With 173 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 19,757. Test positivity rate recorded at 18.04 percent.

However, the Covid-19 review committee decided not to impose more restrictions in view of the increasing number of cases. Decision was taken to continue lockdown on Sundays. In view of the Independence Day and Onam celebrations, lockdown on Sundays was suspended for two weeks.    

The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Eranakulam – 3,149, Thrissur- 3,046, Kozhikode – 875, Malappuram- 2,778, Palakkad-2,2214, Kollam- 1,762, Kottayam- 1,474, Thiruvananthapuram- 1,435, Kannur, 1,418, Alappuzha -1,107, Pathanamthitta- 1,031, Wayanad- 879, Idukki-612 and Kasargod-518

A total of 13,47,06 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 3,04,53,773 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

118 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 22,775 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1313 patients remains unidentified.

The district - wise statistics of contact cases: Eranakulam – 3,099, Thrissur – 3,029, Kozhikode – 2816, Malappuarm-2,678, Palakkad – 1,321, Kollam – 1,754, Kottayam – 1,359, Thiruvananthapuram- 1,346, Kannur- 1,297, Alappuzha- 1,088, Pathanamthitta – 1,013, Wayanad – 866, Idukki – 598 and Kasaragod – 501.

90 health workers also tested positive for Covid - 19. Among them 16 were from Kannur, 14 from Palakkad, 12 from Kasargod, seven each from Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Wayanad, five each from Idukki, Eranakulam and Thrissur, three each from Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Kottayam, two from Malappuram and one from Kozhikode.

Meanwhile, 19,349 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district - wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram - 1087, Kollam - 1483, Pathanamthitta - 642, Alappuzha - 1224, Kottayam - 1099, Idukki - 473, Eranakulam - 1170, Thrissur - 2476, Palakkad - 1773, Malappuram - 3025, Kozhikode - 2426, Wayanad - 663, Kannur – 1187 and Kasaragod - 621.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,59,335 in the state. 36,72,357 were recovered from the disease so far.

4,67,051 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,41,012 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 26,039 people are in hospitals. 2,078 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.

The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 8 in 414 wards of 74 local bodies. Strict restrictions are enforced in these places.
